Mardi Gras, NorCal-style! Sunday, 2/15/15

I love a parade!  Broad Street in downtown Nevada City was the site for the annual Mardi Gras parade. We missed it last year, since we were "on the road," but we heard that it was cold last year at Mardi Gras time.  Not so this year -- today was warm, shirt-sleeve weather, and sunny.  We saw lots of people in shorts.  NorCal may not be New Orleans or Mobile, but we know how to have a good time!

We even have a Parrot Head Club!  Remember:  It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

Grand Marshall, Jim Hemig and his wife.  Hemig is publisher of The Union, our local newspaper.

The three cute put-put-put pictures above are adult soap box derby entries.

Hmmm ....

A fire-breathing dragon roared down Broad St in the parade.

Universal Mardi Gras sound:  Throw me somethin', mister!

Me and Jimmy are:  "follow'n."  At parade's end, we hopped over the fence and joined the throng headin' down Broad St.

And most of these folk joined us.

Fun to watch the throw attempts to the upper balcony.  Beads flew back and forth from street to upper deck, lower balcony, and back to the street, amid much laughter.  The parade was well-attended, and everyone seemed to have a great time.  I know we did.  We managed to gather quite a bead collection, one bracelet, a couple of doubloons, and we had just as much fun giving them all away!

The End.

  1. Oh my! The "New Orleans of the Northwest"! Looks like a fun time....

  2. Oh, and one more comment: were there crawfish?

    1. We didn't eat downtown, but I'm sure crawfish would've been on someone's menu ... most notably Ike's Quarter Cafe. Possibly even Lefty's!
