My son and his bride!
Matt and Jennifer
Wed on April 1, 2014
Remember me saying Jimmy and I had a reason why we needed to rush through our Southeastern trip in February/March? Now I can tell: Their upcoming wedding was the reason! Back in January (when we returned from our cruise and South American adventure and stayed overnight at their apartment in Los Angeles), Matt and Jen made the decision to marry on 4/1/14. An auspicious day, for sure. And they chose to wed at the beautiful San Francisco City Hall, with just their parents in attendance. No big hoopla. Hence, mum was the word till the Big Event was accomplished.
Below are pictures from my point-and-shoot camera, beginning the day before when the six of us met up at Jen's parents' home in Roseville, CA (roughly 45 miles from our Nevada City CA home).

Last minute packing up the Prius in Roseville.
Jen and Matt in one car, and Alice and Tom, me and Jimmy in their car.
March 31st was a very drippy day in San Francisco. Umbrellas were needed as we made our way toward San Francisco's City Hall for their 2 PM marriage license appointment.
Yeehaw! Got it -- the Marriage License!
Next, to the Clift Hotel (near Union Square)... in the rain.

After checking in, we relaxed in Farallon Restaurant before going to dinner.

Oysters on the half shell for most. Spinach dip for some, and garlic fries for everyone! After this, we ventured to R & G Lounge in Chinatown for a delicious dinner. Not a one of us thought we'd be able to do justice to dinner after Farallon's appetizers, but we were wrong!

The next morning, 4/1/14, was not favorable weather-wise. Rain blurred the view from their 15th floor windows, but it didn't dampen the wedding party's spirits. Off/on showers were forecast for the entire day, and we had our fingers crossed that drops wouldn't fall for the 3 PM ceremony. We gathered in the kids' suite, where the ladies had hair/make-up appointments, and the guys -- well, the guys just kinda hung around. Tom and Jimmy fetched sandwiches for lunch. Matt busied himself with myriad wedding details.
Jen's gorgeous wedding gown.
It was cute and it was tasty. A small cake for the six of us.
Clift Hotel sent up champagne and decorated strawberries (both days). Yum!
What a card. We all had such a great time.
They were so calm, and comfortable with everything!
Jen's turn with the hair lady.
Hair and make-up finished, I posed with Jimmy for a pre-wedding pic (all gussied up).
What a beauty!
A limo awaited us in front of the hotel. The rain gods took mercy upon us: No precipitation fell when we departed the hotel or entered City Hall.
Just married! Pardon the fuzziness; I had fierce competition from the professional photographer!
The happy couple posing for pictures.
Here come the bride and groom. Mr. and Mrs.
Look at these two -- they're ecstatic!
I got you, Babe!
Love the props!
The photographer whisked them away for more photos. As they made their way back to City Hall's front steps, rain drops commenced, and then a downpour. No matter; we had umbrellas. Our limo was waiting. A photo shoot at the Palace of Fine Arts was canceled due to rain, but we drove out to the Presidio to see the building and surrounding grounds. Pictures there would have been lovely. I suspect the photographer did all right w/o another venue! (Jimmy and I plan to go by ourselves one of these days.)
What a handsome couple, if I do say so myself.
I doubt Matt and Jen have ever taken a lousy picture.
Back at the hotel suite, after a fine post-wedding dinner at Harris' Steakhouse, the cake was cut and distributed. A delicious confetti cake with a coconut frosting filled us to the bursting point. (Matt dedicated the cake to his Louisiana "Memaw," who always made him a coconut cake on his birthday.) I don't think I'll need to eat for days. I will eat, but I prob won't need to!!
Yes, congratulations to you both.
It was our privilege to be a part of your special moment. 💕
We awoke early the next morning (darn it), but the day seemed fairly clear, at least not raining, and the sidewalks appeared to be drying. I asked Jimmy if he wanted to go for a walk (to burn off some of those calories), so after only one cuppa coffee, we hit the Streets of San Francisco. In a convoluted sort of way, we ended up at the Embarcadero, and it was a fine day for an hour's hike.
When we returned to the hotel, it was time to wrap it up. Alice and Tom were packing and it didn't take me and Jimmy long to squeeze our stuff into our suitcases. The four of us joined the newlyweds in their suite for a fun rehash of the Big Event, and then we said our goodbyes. Tom and Alice drove us to Roseville (with a stop at Spengers in Berkeley for lunch). We proceeded home to Nevada City in our Prius. The young'uns will take a short "mini-moon" up the California coast to the Russian River area and then down to Carmel, Big Sur and Santa Barbara, and home to Los Angeles.
Tomorrow - o boy - I'll post photos of what greeted us when we arrived home!
