After this picture was taken, Jimmy and I had to abruptly leave Los Angeles and return ASAP for Daphne as Jimmy's son was gravely ill in a Mobile AL hospital ICU. We hated to leave Matt and Jen (and Sophie). Jimmy's son is on life support, suffering from ARDS, but he has a 50-50 chance of surviving an all-encompassing bacterial infection.
Arrived at Matt's in Los Angeles today. Took us seven weeks exactly and we put 6,500 miles on the RV - obviously we took the long way! Here's Matt and his dog Sophie being silly (she's dressed in her Halloween piggie costume). So good to be here! Hey, Wilkinsons, where'ya going next? We're going to DISNEYLAND!
A few miles west of Las Vegas is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area* with remarkable rock formations that just don't seem to fit in with the surrounding desert area, but there it is anyway. A 16-mile scenic drive loop gives a good overview of the area. While there are quite a few hiking trails, today we brought our bikes to ride the scenic drive. The first six miles are up. It was hot. It hurt. We stopped several times on the uphill to take in the scenery, but in reality we needed to breathe, rest, and tank up on water.
*The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System, and protected as a National Conservation Area.
We did it! Downhill was best! The 35.1 mph downhill speed Jimmy achieved on far other side of the loop actually exceeded the posted speed limit!! I chickened out and gripped the brake when I hit 33+ mph. We'd like to return sometime, maybe do a little hiking, and see what we missed while we were on our bikes. Beautiful area.
