50° and foggy/misty at wake-up. Assuming the day would warm and maybe clear, we waited till 10 AM to hit the bike trail, and it was a good call – temp had climbed way up to 51°, but t'was still cloudy! Nevertheless, intrepid adventurers as we are, we donned long pants and fleece over and under our bike duds, and set out. The trail is a former rail-bed following the Kennebec River and very picturesque. ATV’s share the trail and have torn it up in a few places. We passed a defunct salmon aquaculture farm where three million salmon were lost when the place caught fire a while back. What a tragedy! Next was the Solon/Williams hydroelectric dam. We rode north into Bingham and ate our sandwiches on a bench in town. Finally, we rode up a steep hill to see the Wyman hydroelectric dam in Moscow. Now we can say we’ve seen Moscow. Riding down that hill was great! Don’t know about the Maine reputation for taciturn folks, as everybody we encountered was friendly and helpful. Weather never warmed enough to shed jackets. Only put 25 miles on the bikes, but we really enjoyed riding the trail. Where to next …?
