5/13/11 Petroglyph hike (Mesa Verde)

Gone is the notion of snow! It’s warm enough to shed jackets, and I wished I’d worn a short-sleeve shirt on our hike. Since it is spring in these parts, we were treated to colorful blooms from wildflowers and cactus. Very nice bonus.

This up/down 3-mile R/T loop trail features the Park’s largest Indian petroglyph panel. On the trail, we were introduced – by way of a handy trail guide – to the natural elements of Mesa Verde and the ways these were used by the ancient peoples; that is, the plants and trees, birds and insects, as well as the area’s geology. We studied the petroglyph panel (and ate some trail mix there), and we also discovered another nearby ruins to wander through. It was a fascinating hike and kinda long ‘cause we kept stopping to look and read, to pause and admire.

Wow!
