Saturday, after lunch we decided to bus up to Logan Pass and hike part of the Highline Trail, (2-3 miles), which is actually scary at the start (understatement if you're looking down), but it evolves into an amazing trail packed with wildflowers, waterfalls, and spectacular views. This is what we came for ... this is Glacier National Park. As you will see by the pics, the day was beautiful with bright sunshine. We started with jackets on but shed them as we warmed up. We encountered fellow hikers, but not too many for a Saturday in August, certainly nothing to worry us. Highline was a Highlight!
Mountain goats apparently like this area of the park; we saw quite a few here. They seem very friendly, but they're still wild animals. People close by didn't seem to faze them, so I suppose they're used to seeing humans all over their mountains.
As mentioned above, walking on this ledge at the trail beginning is quite an experience and not for the faint of heart or those with a terrifying fear of heights!
Going-to-the-Sun Road directly below ... that is to say, straight down! This crazy road is one of the Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks, and after driving on it, we know why!
Jimmy didn't hang on to the hand cable, but I sure did.
This has to be one of the most scenic trails in the country, if not the world.
Dudes, move it along!
So many wildflowers!
Back at the parking lot, one more pose at the pass to prove, "Jimmy was here." We took another hundred (give or take) photos, each one as good as the next. Unless you took a picture inside your pocket, there could be no bad photo ops in Glacier. What an outstanding day!
Them thar are sum hills!
