Sinks Canyon WY - Sat 8/16 - Mon 8/18

Saturday night we stayed at Terry Bison RV Ranch near Cheyenne WY, after a cool, rainy day. We saw bison, oh yeah, lots of them. The campground was marginal, catering to tourists who have dollars to spend.  Happily, we left the next morning ... in thick fog and sprinkles, which cleared as soon as we left Cheyenne.

The drive to Lander was awesome, and we camped two nights at Sinks Canyon St Pk, 6 miles south of Lander, right next to the Popo Agie River (a Crow Indian word, pronounced Po-Po-shuh, which means "gurgling river"). What an outstanding campsite and state park this is. We hiked miles on both days, and though we aren't used to hiking at 6,000'+ elevations, we did fine.  A nap after our 4+ mile hike on Sunday helped!

The park is a beautiful place, and we took lots of photos!  It isn't easy to choose the best ones for the blog when there are so many!  But if that's the least of my worries, I'm happy!

Larger motor homes wouldn't fit into any of the sites in the park; they're all pretty small and/or short. Our little Tergel tucked into this site perfectly. I caught the moon rise at the right moment.

The Popo Agie flows out of the Wind River Mtns and halfway down the canyon, it abruptly turns into a large limestone cavern and "sinks." The river is underground for 1/4 mile until it emerges further down the canyon in a large calm pool called, "The Rise/" From there, it continues its course into the valley below.

Large trout congregate in the pool (no fishing allowed there -- too bad!).  The fish in the pool above may look like minnows, but in reality, they're over a foot long!
